Privacy Policy

SunPlanner ("we," "us," "our") makes a solar production forecasting app for people who live and travel off-grid: RVs, vans, skoolies, cabins, and homesteads. This page explains, in plain language, what this website collects and what it does not, plus an honest summary of how the SunPlanner app itself handles your data. We never sell your data, we never run ads on this site, and this site never requests your precise GPS or browser location. Cloudflare Web Analytics provides aggregate country-level reporting as described below.

1. What this website collects

If you join the iPhone waitlist, we store the email address you give us and your name only if you choose to enter it. We also retain earlier waitlist records from people who selected Android before the Android app launched. If the link that brought you here includes a campaign label, this site also keeps the source, channel, and first page you visited in first-party browser storage for no more than 30 days. If you join the waitlist, those three campaign details are saved with your signup so we can tell which of our own links and outreach actually helped. They do not contain your location, IP address, device identity, or a fingerprint. This site has no user accounts and does not ask for your phone number. If you use Solar Sizing, you can enter a city or ZIP area to choose local monthly solar-resource values. That search stays in your browser and is not sent to SunPlanner.

2. What this website never does

• Never requests your precise location. Nothing on this website reads or requests your GPS position or browser geolocation. Cloudflare Web Analytics provides aggregate country-level reporting from visits, as described below.
• Never sells your data. Your email address is used only to send you SunPlanner updates. It is never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers.
• Never uses tracking cookies. This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless analytics service that reports aggregate visits, pages, referrers, browser and device details, and visitor country without a tracking cookie or device fingerprint. The first-party campaign labels described above are not shared with an advertising network and expire from browser storage after 30 days.
• Never runs ads or ad trackers. There are no third-party ad networks, ad pixels, or retargeting scripts on this site.

3. The SunPlanner app

The SunPlanner mobile app is a separate product from this website, and it does use your device's location, because that's how it computes a solar forecast for the exact spot you're parked. Here is the honest, short version:

• Your location (GPS) is used on your device to request a forecast and draw the in-app map. For the main weather forecast and rain data, your device rounds your coordinates to about a kilometer of precision before sending them to a weather gateway we operate ourselves. That gateway checks that the request is coming from a real, licensed copy of the app, using Google's own Play Integrity service to verify your device and the app's signature, then forwards your rounded coordinates to our weather providers, Open-Meteo and Pirate Weather, to get the forecast. Those two providers never see which install or device made the request. Our own gateway does see the rounded coordinates, the IP address the request came from, and a persistent but pseudonymous per-install identifier, the same kind of identifier described later in this section. We keep gateway request data only as long as we need it to run and secure the service. For example, we cache a rounded coordinate for a few minutes so we don't ask a weather provider twice for the same forecast. We don't keep it as a permanent history of where you've been. For map display and coordinates-to-place-name lookup, your coordinates go straight from your device to Mapbox and BigDataCloud. BigDataCloud turns your coordinates into a place name, and Mapbox draws the map. When you type a place, business, or address into search, the search text is sent to the relevant search provider, either Mapbox directly or Open-Meteo through our gateway, so it can return matches. These providers do not receive your SunPlanner account identity.
• Separately, the mapping software we use, Mapbox, collects its own usage data about how the map gets used, the way most map software does. We don't turn this off. Doing so would remove the one built-in way Mapbox requires us to give you to opt out. That's the small map attribution button shown on every map screen in the app. Tap it to see Mapbox's own privacy choices, including opting out.
• If you redeem a code in the app (a tester code, for example), the app sends the code, a locally generated pseudonymous user key, and a one-time request identifier to our account service. It does not send your location with the redemption. A code specifically configured to require a linked account also uses your signed-in account to enforce its redemption rules.
• We keep each redemption record indefinitely because it is what prevents a limited-use code from being used repeatedly. We don't currently have a process that deletes these records on a schedule. If you delete your account, we remove the identity tied to a redemption record, but retain the de-identified code and redemption date.
• Your equipment and production history (panel wattage, inverter type, calibration data) stay on your device only. They are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
• Signing in is optional. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier and email address, plus any name and profile-picture URL that Google includes with that account. We use Supabase to store that identity so your subscription and purchases stay attached to you across devices. We never receive or store your Google password.
• If you buy a monthly or yearly membership in the Android app, Google Play Billing processes the payment and RevenueCat manages your membership status. Neither receives your location or equipment data.
• Automatic crash and error reports go to Sentry so we can fix bugs. A weather error report may include the installed numeric app build, the failed step, a fixed technical error code, the time it happened, and a fresh random per-request identifier (UUID). The identifier is used only to match the app failure to the corresponding gateway log. We strip location data, exact search text, authorization details, and API keys before reports are sent.
• If you choose to send feedback from the app, Sentry receives the description you type, any reply email you choose to provide, and a diagnostic text attachment. The attachment may include the app version, build number, platform, operating-system version, locale, whether a forecast is cached, the forecast source, cache age, number of forecast days, and a limited settings summary. It may also include the saved time, fixed step label, fixed failure code, and random request identifier from the last weather failure when present, plus the last widget refresh time and its fixed outcome label. It does not include coordinates, place name, location-derived region, equipment configuration, account identity, logs, raw weather responses, request bodies, authorization details, tokens, or user text other than the report you type. You can preview the attachment before sending, and nothing is sent until you tap send. We use this information to investigate the report and reply when you provide an email.

4. Who else sees your data

This website's own data (your email, current or earlier platform choice, optional name, and any campaign details saved with your signup) is stored in Cloudflare's infrastructure and is never shared with anyone outside SunPlanner. We do not sell, rent, or trade it, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising. For app accounts and purchases, Google Sign-In, Supabase, RevenueCat, and Google Play Billing each receive only the information needed for the role described in section 3, never your location or equipment data from SunPlanner. Sentry processes automatic crash and error reports and any feedback report you choose to send as SunPlanner's service provider. Our weather gateway, described in section 3, is infrastructure we run ourselves, not a separate company. We're naming it here anyway, for completeness. It's the only party that sees your coordinates together with a per-install identifier and your IP address, and it only sees that to prove a request is coming from a real, licensed copy of the app before fetching your forecast.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your waitlist record, including its platform choice, optional name, and campaign details, until you ask us to remove it, or until 12 months after the app's public launch, whichever comes first. Campaign details kept only in your browser expire after 30 days. If you delete your app account, we remove your Supabase identity and your RevenueCat customer record. We do keep a one-way cryptographic hash of your linked Google account identifier, which cannot be reversed to reveal who you are, only to prevent the same person from repeatedly claiming free-trial or promotional offers after deleting an account. De-identified redemption records (the code and redemption date, without location) are kept indefinitely. We don't currently have a scheduled process that deletes them. See deleting your account for the full picture, including that deletion does not cancel an active subscription.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your email address at any time by writing to the address below, and we will act within 7 days. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the same rights under GDPR (access, correction, deletion, portability). If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what we collect and the right to delete it. Since we never sell data, there is nothing to opt out of on that front, but you can still ask us to delete your email at any time.

7. Children

SunPlanner is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as the site and app change. Meaningful changes will be noted here with a new date at the top.
